Kolkata: TMC Chief and Railway Minister Mamata Banerjee on Tuesday welcomed the poll dates for West Bengal given by the Election Commission.

The state of West Bengal will have elections in six phases. The first phase voting is on April 18, second on April 23, third on April 27, fourth phase on May 3, fifth phase on May 7 and sixth phase is on May 10.

"It's an auspicious time as this is the month of Baisakh," said Mamata.

Attacking the Left ruling in the state, Mamata said, "35 years of Left front rule will be washed out. They have destroyed the economy, society, education and administration."

"The fight and struggle of many years should now be over for people of Bengal, for workers, for women, for farmers and for tribals," she said.

Mamata also appealed to the people of West Bengal to vote for change. "We salute democracy. Please cast your vote for change, security and education." she said.

Speaking of the law and order situation in Bengal, Mamata said, "Law and order is not all right in Bengal. We therefore, respect the Election Commission's decision to go for six-phase polls in this backdrop."
