New Delhi: The anti-corruption helpline launched by the Aam Aadmi Party government in Delhi seems to be getting thousands of calls on the first day itself. Till 3 pm on Thursday, the cell had received 3,000 calls of which 700 have been attended to.
AAP is planning to double the number of staff manning the helpline by Friday to handle the large number of calls.
The anti-corruption helpline number - 011-27357169 - is operational from 8 am to 10 pm, seven days a week. It is intended to catch corrupt officers red handed, said Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal.
The AAP government has taken activism to the citizens with the helpline, which tells citizens how to conduct sting operations on corrupt officials.
Kejriwal said that helpline number will guide and suggest ways to complainants on how to catch bribe takers red handed. "Every citizen will be anti-corruption inspector. We will ask people to record anyone who asks for a bribe. With due evidence anyone who is corrupt will be charged," he said. Kejriwal added that the identity of the complainant will be kept anonymous.
He added that the Vigilance Department, which will follow up on the complaints received, has enough officials at present but added that he has asked L-G Najeeb Jung to provide police personnel to help them in their operation.
