BBMP polls Live: BJP retains Bengaluru civic body, setback for Siddaramaiah as Congress suffers major defeat
BJP has already opened its account by winning one ward unopposed as the nomination of the Congress candidate was rejected.

Bengaluru: The fate of 1,121 candidates who are in the fray will be decided as the results of the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) polls will be declared on Tuesday. Major political parties in the fray are the Congress, BJP and JDS. AIMIM is also contesting in 30 wards. Loksatta Party is also in the fray in some wards.

## 01:10 PM: The BJP has retained the Bengaluru civic body by winning 100 seats. Congress was a distant second as it won 75 of the 198 seat polls. The loss is a huge blow for Karnataka CM Siddaramaiah. Meanwhile, the JDS managed to win 14 seats while Others won on 8 seats.

## 12:45 PM: It's a big victory for the BJP as they have won in 99 seats, the Congress has won 75 seats, the JDS has bagged 14 seats while the Others have won in 8 seats.

## 12:45 PM: The BJP has won 98 seats, Congress in 74, JDS in 14 and Others in 8.

## 12:30 PM: The Karnataka Congress President calls BBMP polls result very disappointing. This verdict will impact city development. It is not a referendum on the state government functioning. The party is not looking at a leadership change.

## Trends at 10:10 AM: BJP is leading in 58 seats, Congress in 38 seats, JDS in 10 seats while Others in 6 seats.

## Trends at 10:00 AM: Congress takes lead in 26 seats, BJP in 57 seats, JDS in 9 and Others in 5 seats

## Trends at 9:30 AM: BJP has taken a big lead over the ruling Congress in the BBMP polls. The Congress is leading in just 16 seats, BJP is leading in 35, JDS in 10 seats and Others in 5 seats. The JDS seems to have eaten into Congress votes. Proving exit polls wrong, the BJP has taken a decisive lead over the Congress.

## BBMP has a total 198 seats. The BJP was in power at the BBMP during the previous term. Defeat for Congress can be seen as a huge setback for Chief minister Siddaramaiah.

## Trends at 9AM: Out of 56 seats, BJP is leading on 25 seats, Congress on 16, JDS on 10 and Others on 5.

## The turnout in the voting that took place on August 22 was abysmally low with only 44% of Bengalureans exercising their franchise out of the 71 lakh people who were eligible to vote.

## The election is being dubbed as a city ‘referendum’ on Chief Minister Siddaramaiah.

## Bharati Ramachandra, a BJP candidate, was declared elected unanimously from Hongasandra ward in Bommanahalli assembly segment after Congress candidate Maheshwari's nomination papers were rejected by the returning officer for submitting a false caste certificate.

## The Congress campaign was led by Siddaramaiah. He toured the city and requested the voters to give a chance to Congress. He also attacked the BJP for its alleged corruption and misrule in the last eight years.

## The BJP campaign was led by former deputy chief minister and its Bengaluru strongman R Ashoka. The JDS leader and former chief minister HD Kumaraswamy led the campaign of his party.
