Morigaon (Assam): The BJP candidate for Morigaon assembly constituency Prahlad Bhuyan was allegedly assaulted and injured by party workers during an election meeting on Wednesday.
The workers opposing the nomination of Bhuyan allegedly pelted stones on his vehicle and assaulted him. They alleged that Bhuyan was an outsider to the constituency and were demanding that the ticket be given to Bhadrakanta Nath.
Bhuyan who was injured on the face was treated in a local hospital, the hospital sources said.
The workers later burnt the effigies of state unit party president Ranjit Dutta and Bhuyan.
