New Delhi: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Tuesday came out in support of security forces in Jammu and Kashmir even as they were under attack for firing on demonstrators.
"(The) BJP is with the CRPF (Central Reserve Police Force). They are guarding the nation. They work for the safety of people. How can (Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister) Omar Abdullah ask Home Minister P. Chidambaram to help? The security forces are working for the constitution of the elected government, and he runs the elected government," BJP spokesperson Tarun Vijay told reporters here.
A day earlier, the BJP had said it would wait for an inquiry report before reacting to the recent deaths of civilians in the state.
A judicial inquiry into the killing of two civilians allegedly in CRPF firing in north Kashmir was ordered by the state government on Saturday. It is likely to give its report within a month.
BJP spokesperson Nirmala Sitharaman had told IANS a day earlier: "There should not be a media or outside trial. Let us wait for the inquiry commission report, but I can assure you that we are not going to defend anyone whether it is the CRPF or other security forces who (step) out of law."
