New Delhi: The Association of Democratic Reforms (ADR) on Tuesday released a report on the details of donations received by major political parties from financial year 2011-12 to 2015-16 in Gujarat. The report has revealed that the BJP has pulled in the maximum amount of donations over the last five years, followed by the Congress which is a distant second.
Here are the key takeaways from Tuesday’s ADR report:
BJP pulled in big money
The BJP has received the highest overall donations from Gujarat, worth Rs 80.45 crore from 2186 donations between Financial Year 2011-12 and 2015-16. The BJP is followed by the Indian National Congress, which has received the second highest amount of donations of Rs 14.09 crore from 53 donations.
The CPM received Rs 3 crore and the CPI just under Rs 1 lakh, while the NCP and the BSP declared having received no donations over Rs 20,000. Out of the Rs 97.55 received by all parties, the BJP’s share was almost four times the amount received by the other five national parties.
Corporates are big donors
BJP has received Rs 71.35 crore from Corporates/Business Houses of Gujarat. The wealth received from Corporates forms 88.69% of the BJP’s total donations from Gujarat. The Congress, meanwhile, has received Rs 13.57 crore or 96.31% of its total donations from Corporates/Business Houses.
No Corporate money for CPI. The Communist Party of India (CPI) is the only party that has received no donations from corporates/Business Houses of Gujarat.
19.13% donations without PAN details
19.13% of the total amount of donations or Rs 18.66 crore received by National Parties from Gujarat through 908 donations do not have PAN details.
Donations in cash
BJP and INC are the, two National Parties that have reported receiving donations above Rs 20,000, from Gujarat, in cash. The entire income of CPI from donations above Rs 20,000, between FY 2011-12 and 2015-16, have incomplete or undeclared mode of payment details.
