Panaji: The Bharatiya Janata Party continued to keep everyone guessing on the role of Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi in the forthcoming Lok Sabha polls. An hour after spokesperson Syed Shahanawaz Hussain on Sunday promised "good news" at 12 noon, the BJP leader again dodged questions on Modi's possible appointment as the campaign chief for the 2014 general election.
Asked about the reason for the delay behind making the much-awaited Modi announcement, Hussain said: "You will have to wait. Not for days or hours, but for minutes. When the decision is made it will be conveyed to you."
Sunday is the concluding day of the three-day party conclave during which the BJP National Executive body met during the last two days. All eyes are set on the imminent elevation of Modi as the party's face for the 2014 Lok Sabha polls.
Modi, recently appointed a member of the party's parliamentary board, is likely to be given a major role in leading the BJP's parliamentary battle. This has reportedly upset several party leaders including veteran LK Advani, who skipped the Goa meet citing health reasons.
Meanwhile, Hussain also took potshots at the Congress for repeatedly commenting on the alleged BJP divide over Modi's issue. "The Congress trembles when they hear the name Narendra Modi because he has defeated that party time and again in Gujarat," he said.
The BJP spokesperson also tried to playdown the absence of Advani and other party leaders from the National Executive. "The BJP is honoured to have been lead by people like LK Advani and Atal Behari Vajpayee. This meeting has the blessings of LK Advani. He is not here because he is unwell," he added.
