New Delhi: Congress on Friday demanded a CBI probe into the mysterious death of a top medical officer in Lucknow jail linking it with corruption in health services and alleged that BSP leaders were involved in the "loot".
Lambasting the UP government over the death of deputy chief medical officer YS Sachan, senior party leader Digvijay Singh alleged there was an "institutionalised corruption" in health services in the state and the "money trail goes up to the Chief Minister".
"Whether it is suicide or murder. The entire incident should be probed by CBI," Singh, who is the AICC general secretary in-charge for Uttar Pradesh told reporters in New Delhi.
Alleging that the there is "loot" in all health department offices in the state, he said that a thorough inquiry should be conducted in all offices of the Chief Medical Officers.
"Congress has been maintaining from the very beginning that corruption has become institutionalised in Uttar Pradesh and its money trail goes up to the Chief Minister. The Chief Minister is responsible for all this and appears in a defencive postion in this whole episode," Singh said. Without taking names, he alleged that one BSP MP, MLA and MLC was involved in this loot.
