New Delhi: The Aam Aadmi Party has filed a defamation suit against journalist Anuranjan Jha who released the sting operation allegedly showing prominent AAP members accepting funds without proper background check.
The party has also sued news channel 'India News' in relation with the case.
The defamation suit comes just a day after AAP said that the footage in the sting operation were doctored and important parts were deleted and edited to show the party members in poor light, citing the findings of its internal investigation. AAP member Yogendra Yadav said, "They have manipulated and edited and presented the CD to people. The edited scenes/conversations change the whole meaning. The CD is doctored, its fake and fraud."
The CD surfaced a few days before Delhi will go to polls and AAP will make its electoral debut. The sting operation carried by Media Sarkar had showed AAP's top leaders including Shazia Ilmi ready to accept funds without proper background verification. However, Yadav said that action will not be taken against the candidates on the basis of the sting operation adding that AAP has not accepted Shazia Ilmi's offer to resign.
