Thowra (Assam): BJP leader Rajnath Singh on Tuesday alleged that the economic policies of the Congress were "very wrong and not suited to the needs of the people" and this was mainly responsible for inflation and subsequent
miseries of the people.
"The Congress was in power for majority of the 63 years (after independence) but failed to provide the people with their basic needs and solve the myriad problems being faced by them," Singh told a campaign rally organised here
for BJP candidate Sibu Prasad Bodsa.
The Congress is "basically a party of looters" and their policies result in making the poor poorer and the rich richer, he said. "If the BJP comes to power at the Centre, we will try our best to bring in the looted money from the foreign banks and use it for the development of people," Singh said.
Referring to Assam, the senior BJP leader said that foreigners' influx was a major problem faced by the state and this was mainly due to the porous border. The top-most priority of the BJP would be to stop this. Besides, the National Register of Citizens would be updated and all post-71 Bangladeshi migrants will be deported.
The wages of tea garden labourers in the state was pathetic and if the BJP forms the government, "we will increase it considerably."
"In Madhya Pradesh, the BJP government gives 26 kgs of rice for Rs three per month to BPL families and if we come to power, we will adopt the same policy in Assam," he added.
The former BJP president also addressed campaign rallies at Bokakhat and Sarupathar for party candidates Deba Pradip Bora and Dinesh Bhilwaria respectively.
