New Delhi: Delhi Congress on Saturday said it will gherao the Parliament House on Monday - the first day of the budget session - demanding a roll back in the recent rail fare hike and to protest against the BJP-led Central Government's "failure" to curb soaring price rise of essential commodities and consumable items.
Under the leadership of DPCC President Arvinder Singh, the demonstrators will assemble at 10 AM on Monday at Jantar Mantar before marching toward the Parliament House and launch a "Halla Bol Andolan", the party said on Saturday.
Speaking to reporters at a press conference, Arvinder Singh and Congress Legislative Party (CLP) leader Haroon Yusuf said the BJP-led Central Government had failed on all fronts, and the good days that had been promised have turned out to be bad days for the people due to the wrong decisions and policies by the BJP-led Central Government.
"People are already fed up of the soaring prices of all essential commodities, including food items, as the BJP seems to be content with its victory," said Singh.
Both the leaders alleged that in view of the upcoming Assembly elections in Maharastra, the rail fare hike in Mumbai's local trains was reduced. But on the other hand, those pravasis who have made Delhi their homes, were being severely affected by the rail fare hike as they have to visit their birth place in other States at least twice a year to meet the family and attend functions.
"The hike in the fares of rail freights has also caused all-round price rise, and the BJP-led Central Government was trying to divert the attention of the people of Delhi from the price rise issue by creating a big drama of taking action against the hoarders," said Yusuf.
They said the prices of essential commodities and food items have soared to the sky, and the administration was taking no action to contain price rise.
