Vilasrao Deshmukh has been under public scrutiny over poor handling security situation.

Mumbai: Vilasrao Deshmukh- who is on his way out- has announced some measures. This includes the formation of Maharashtra Security Guards along the line of the NSG within 4 months.

24 coastal police stations and a unified security command for Maharashtra will also be set up. In addition to this, all fisherman in the state will be given ID cards.

Vilasrao Deshmukh has been under public scrutiny over poor handling of state security situation, offered to resign on Monday.

“In the Congress Working Committee (CWC) meeting day before yesterday I offered to resign. The party high command has not taken any decision on this so far but whatever they decide I will accept,” Deshmukh said.

Countering criticism from Opposition, he said, “When attack on Parliament happened, BJP Home Minister did not resign. However, when attacks on Mumbai happened, our Home Minister resigned therefore BJP has no right to say anything.”

Deshmukh drew a lot of public ire after he visited the Taj Mahal Hotel with his actor son Riteish Deshmukh and his producer friend Ram Gopal Varma to oversee the damage.

Earlier during the day, he accepted the resignation of Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister RR Patil, who too has been facing widespread criticism after he described Mumbai terror strikes as ‘minor incident.’
