New Delhi: The Election Commission on Monday issued a show cause notice to former Jharkhand chief minster Babulal Marandi for appealing to bishops and pastors for support in the Lok Sabha elections.
In a similar case, Union Minister and Congress leader Shashi Tharoor was alleged by a local news channel of bribing pastors for persuading their community to vote for him. The BJP had then filed a complaint with the EC on the same.
The complaint by BJP alleged that Tharoor is trying to reap electoral benefits by creating enmity amongst people of different religions.
Marandi is contesting Lok Sabha polls from Dumka in Jharkhand against arch rival Shibu Soren.
