Betiah: Bihar police have carried out a raid at the office of LJP candidate from West Champaran district, Prakash Jha. Jha has alleged that the state administration is harrassing his party.
The police claim to have recovered Rupees ten lakh in cash from the office of noted film director.
In the same raid 35 people have also been detained. Jha's constituency goes to polls on Thursday April 23, 2009 in the second phase of the General Elections.
Prakash Jha is pitted against Lalu Prasad Yadav's renegade in-famous brother-in-law and Congress candidate Sadhu Yadav as well as against BJP's local heavyweight Dr Sanjay Jaiswal.
Speaking to CNN-IBN, Prakash Jha said that he was unaware as to why the raids had been initiated. He quoted raiding officials blaming the orders on higher authorities.
"We had hospitals which were giving free service and it was giving us a good name. The DM came and shut everything down. They arrested workers and even took cash from the sugar factory office as they could not find anything in the election office. This is the way the administration is harassing and humiliating us. When I asked the police who has given the orders they said that the orders came from the top and when I asked who is at the top they said home office and others. I will now go to the EC and with all the documents take the matter to court," Jha said.
