Former Congress MLA Baba Siddiqui Set to Join NCP, Confirms Ajit Pawar; More Leaders May Follow Suit

Former Maharashtra minister Baba Siddiqui who resigned from the Congress party on Thursday after 48 years of association, is all set to join the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP). Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar confirmed the news saying that the former Congress leader will join NCP on Saturday.

He also said that some more leaders is set to join the NCP on Sunday.

In a conversation with reporters on Friday, the Deputy CM said, “Baba Siddique will join NCP on February 10, evening, and on February 11, some more will join the party.”

On Thursday, Congress MLA Baba Siddique, representing the high profile Bandra area in Mumbai announced his resignation from the Congress.

A prominent minority face of the Mumbai Congress, Siddique also served as a minister when the Congress-NCP coalition was in power.

Taking to X, Siddique said, “I joined the Indian National Congress party as a young teenager and it has been a significant journey lasting 48 years. Today I resign from the primary membership of the Indian National Congress Party with immediate effect.”

While thanking everyone who has been a part of his journey he said that there’s a lot that he would have liked to express but some things are better left unsaid.

The move came days after the Election Commission of India recognised the Ajit Pawar faction as the real National Congress Party (NCP).

Earlier in January this year, Congress leader Milind Deora resigned from Congress, ending his family’s 55-year-old relationship with the grand old party.
