GoM on Telangana starts; BJP, MIM, CPI back new state
The MIM led by Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi urged the Centre to include Rayalaseema Kurnool and Ananthapur in Telangana.

New Delhi: The Group of Ministers (GoM) headed by Union Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde has started the consultation process on Telangana. The GoM has already met three political parties BJP, MIM and CPI from Andhra Pradesh.

The MIM led by Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi urged the Centre to include two districts from Rayalaseema Kurnool and Ananthapur in Telangana. These two districts have a substantial Muslim population and closer to Hyderabad.

The Andhra Pradesh BJP president and MLA G Kishen Reddy said, "We will support the Telangana Bill, but the interests of the Seemandhra region must also be kept in mind."

The CPI which is also supporting the creation of Telangana asked the Centre to follow the due procedure and address the lapses in the bill.

All three parties also urged the Centre not to make Hyderabad a Union Territory. The two day meeting of the GoM will also consult other political parties from Andhra Prdesh.

The N Chandrababu Naidu-led TDP has boycotted the meeting while YSR Congress Party of Jagan Mohan Reddy has sent a delegation to oppose the creation of Telangana.

TRS chief K Chandrashekhara Rao is also in New Delhi to speak in favour of Telangana. Home Minister Shinde has already made a statement that the process of creating Telangana will be over before the next Lok Sabha and Assembly polls in Andhra Pradesh.
