Hyderabad: YSR Congress Chief Jagan Mohan Reddy on Sunday implored his party cadres to "maintain peace and remain calm" after his arrest by the CBI in the disproportionate assets case.
A statement released by the YSR Congress read, "Anticipating an emotional outpouring by his supporters, Mr Jagan Mohan Reddy has asked his party leaders like Vasi Reddy to communicate a special message to all members of his party as well as other supporters imploring everyone to maintain peace and remain calm at all cost."
"This is the need of the hour especially in view of the upcoming by polls," the statement added.
Jagan has reassured his party members and the general public that he would not bow before the Congress and fight the case legally.
"I will fight this battle legally as I will not bow down to the political games being played by vested interests in the Congress and the Telugu Desam Party," he said.
The Congress has, however, remained guarded in its reaction to the case, saying the party does not comment on matters under investigation.
Party spokesperson Manish Tiwari was also dismissive about the charge levelled by YSR Congress that Reddy's arrest was the result of a Congress-TDP conspiracy.
