Chennai: The run-up to RK Nagar by-polls is only heating up with the OPS IT wing releasing videos of its faction's 'two-electric pole' symbol, which appears like the AIADMK's frozen symbol.
The video starts with two neon lights flashing in an utter dark background. As the music plays in the background, twin electric poles -- the symbol of the O Panneerselvam camp -- become apparent.
This is why the Sasikala faction had filed a complaint with the Election Commission of India. TTV Dinakaran, the nephew of Sasikala who is also the candidate for the by-polls, told CNN News 18: "They are misusing the symbol. It is actually two electric poles, but they are saying its twin lamps. We have filed a complaint with the EC. We haven't heard from the EC yet."
OPS camp, however, is unperturbed. Palaniswamy, an ex-MLA, now with the OPS camp, said: "We are not misusing the symbol. We are only using the symbol that was given to us by the EC. They are doing all this and filing a complaint fearing defeat."
Election Commission is yet to send a notice to the OPS camp. But the fact is with the ADMK symbol now being frozen and two factions claiming they are the 'real AIADMK', the voters are confused.
When CNN-News18 asked voters if they were aware of the symbols allocated to two factions of the AIADMK, many of them said they are confused with the party's name. Some said they were not able to remember the symbols of the two factions. A few pledged support for the OPS camp and said the two electric symbol, to an extent, resembles the AIADMK's symbol.
With just 12 days to go for the by-polls, the war over Amma's legacy continues and the result of the by-poll will help us understand the pulse of the people of Tamil Nadu.
