New Delhi: Wednesday's Cabinet reshuffle has turned out to be a minor one, with only three new faces have been inducted in the Union Council of Ministers.
Uttar Pradesh MP Beni Prasad Verma has become MOS Steel (Independent Charge).
Punjab MP Ashwani Kumar has become MOS Parliamentary Affairs, Science and Technology; while KC Venugopal from Kerala has become MOS Power.
No minister has been dropped but the Prime Minister has changed key portfolios of several ministers including Kamal Nath, Murli Deora, MS Gill, Praful Patel, Jaipal Reddy, Salman Khursheed and Vliasrao Deshmukh.
Kamal Nath has been shifted to Urban Development, while Subodh Kant Sahay has been shifted from Food Processing Industries to Tourism.
Murli Deora has been shifted from Petroleum to Corporate Affairs Ministry, while MS Gill has been shifted from Sports to Statistics and Programme Implementation.
Praful Patel has been shifted from Civil Aviation to Heavy Industries, while Jaipal Reddy has been shifted from Urban Development to Petroleum and Natural Gas.
Sharad Pawar has been shifted from Consumer Affairs and Food and Civil Supplies to Food Processing Industries, but he retains Agriculture.
Virbhadra Singh has been shifted from Steel to Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises, while Vilasrao Deshmukh has been shifted from Heavy Industries and Public Enterprises to Rural Development with additional charge of Panchayati Raj.
CP Joshi has been shifted from Rural Development and Panchayati Raj to Road Transport and Highways. Kumari Selja has been shifted from Tourism and gets additional charge of Culture, but she retains Housing and Urban Poverty Alleviation.
Changes have also been made in the portfolios of various Ministers of State. E Ahamed has been shifted from Railways to External Affairs while Harish Rawat from Labour to Agriculture and Food Processing Industries.
V Narayansami has been shifted from Statistics and Programme Implementation to MoS in the PMO, Department of Personnel, Public Grievances and Pension, but he retains Parliamentary Affairs.
Gurudas Kamat has been shifted from Department of Telecom to Home Affairs in the capacity of MoS. A Sai Pratap gets Heavy Industries and Public Enterprises.
Dinsha Patel has been shifted from MoS Railways to Mines and promoted as MoS Independent Charge.
Commenting on the reshuffle Prime Minister Manmohan Singh said, "This is a minor reshuffle and after Budget session of Parliament, we will do a more expansive exercise."
