Jammu and Kashmir elections result: Who said what
Jammu and Kashmir elections result: Who said what
The government formation in the state will require a lot of bargaining as both the National Conference and Congress have won a handful of seats.

New Delhi: With trends showing a close fight between the Peoples Democratic Party and Bharatiya Janata Party in the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly elections, government formation will require a lot of bargaining with the National Conference and Congress also winning a handful of seats.

Both the PDP and BJP may require outside support to form the government. While the PDP is confident of forming the government, the BJP believes that the next chief minister will be from their party.

Here is who said what:

Sameer Kaul, PDP: As trends have come in, the PDP feels that it is possible that we are not going to need any help to form the government. We should be able to do it on our own, so all these issues who is offering and who is not will be taken up by the political affairs committee of the PDP."

Prakash Javadekar, BJP: Jammu and Kashmir will witness history. The BJP has performed very well. We have doubled our lead since the last elections. We will think about a coalition after the final results.

Sambit Patra, BJP: The BJP's win in J&K is secondary. The high voter turnover of people in the state this time is the victory of democracy.

Hina Bhat, BJP: In a very short time we have managed to get a good vote share in the Valley. I will not call it polarisation as this is for the first time that the BJP is contesting from the Valley at such a scale.

Priyanka Chaturvedi, Congress: Whatever the scenario, as a stakeholder, we will try to ensure that J&K gets a stable government. A coalition with PDP will be a call taken by the Congress leadership. This year has not been good for us. We have accepted the verdict of the people. We have to change a lot of things.

Rajnath Singh, BJP: The BJP will form governments in J&K and Jharkhand

Ratan Lal Gupta, NC: In the forthcoming government, NC will play a major role.

Jugal Kishor, BJP: Next Jammu and Kashmir chief minister will be from BJP.

Ghulam Nabi Azad, Congress: The trends are still coming in. This no big gain for the BJP. They had got 11 seats last time, they got a few more now.

Sajjad Lone, J&K People's Conference: It's too early to call and we have to wait for other votes to be counted. Yes, I am happy today that I am leading.

Naeem Akhtar, PDP: This voting is against NC and Congress and PDP has ideological difference with the BJP, so we will have to look at all parties. It's not a question of cozying up with the BJP, it is about what is best for the people of the state. It could be a historic opportunity like what happened between PDP and Vajpayee government. As the final numbers come we will take a call on whom to go with. J&K is a very complex state.

Sudhanshu Trivedi, BJP: I accept that we have fallen short of our target in J&K. We were not trying to polarize votes but our opponents were trying to polarize the votes. We ran a campaign on development agenda.

Ravi Shankar Prasad, BJP: Like other state elections we are winning in J&K. The people are with BJP and Narendra Modi.

Karan Singh, Congress: We can form a government with PDP. we have done that in the past.

Rajiv Shukla, Congress: In J&K, we have maintained status quo. We are in a position to form the government with PDP. It is for the party high command to decide. It is interesting that even Javadekar talks about secularism. They keep changing their agenda. The BJP aimed at 44 seats in Kashmir, but failed. The Modi effect is declining.

Rajnath Singh, BJP: We should wait for the final results. There is no clear majority in J&K, but BJP's performance has been great.####
