Chennai: AIADMK chief Jayalalithaa on Sunday said the CBI should have searched the premises of DMK first-family run Kalaignar TV only after "securing all records".
"The CBI ought to have raided Kalaignar TV and secured all the records before making their suspicions public," she said in a statement here. She alleged that by following the practices set for normal criminals, the agency gave enough time to work out escape strategies.
The AIADMK supremo claimed that an overnight meeting held recently at DMK headquarters 'Anna Arivalayam' was attended by party chief M Karunanidhi and his children M K Stalin and Kanimozhi besides Kalaignar TV CEO Sharad Kumar and Advocate General PS Raman among others. It went on till the next morning "with all external lights switched off," she said.
She also claimed that "every conceivable bit of evidence" was destroyed.
The CBI had told a court recently, "It has also come to light that there was a transaction of Rs 214 crore from M/s Cineyug Films private limited to Kalaignar TV in 2009."
"The funds were arranged by M/s Cineyug Films from DB Group companies wherein the family members of Swan Telecom promoter and Managing Director of DB Realty Shahid Usman Balwa are the directors or shareholders," CBI had said in its
application.
After having denied links with the 2G spectrum scam, Kalaignar TV has said the respective agencies, including CBI,were welcome to verify its documents and accounts if they wanted.
