New Delhi: 2:30 pm: Defence Minster AK Antony has made a statement in Parliament on the explosions and fire on board submarine INS Sindhurakshak. He said, "Initial assessment indicates that an internal problem in the internal cabin led to the fire and explosion on the submarine. Fire engines were put on action."
Meanwhile, taking a tough stand on ceasefire violations along the LoC in Jammu and Kashmir, Antony said, "Those responsible in Pakistan for the brutal killing of jawans should act swiftly. This will have an effect our behaviour at LoC."
1:30 pm: After uproar in the Rajya Sabha over the coal scam, Congress leader Rajeev Shukla has said, "We will inform the Coal Minister and he will give a statement."
12:45 pm: BJP leader Arun Jaitley said, "The issue is very serious. The government should respond. You eliminate the files and then say no crime has been done." Meanwhile, another BJP MP Venkaiah Naidu has demanded that the Coal Minister should have come to Parliament and made a statement in the House. "The whole country is agitated," he said.
12:30 pm: BJP MP Dharmendra Pradhan says it is shameful that some files related to the coal scam have gone missing. "The PMO should explain how the files went missing. Is it an attempt to save the Prime Minister? The Prime Minister should reply to the House," he said.
12:03 am: The Rajya Sabha Chairman has called an all-party meet at 4 pm on Monday to discuss the changes required in the rules of procedure.
11:31 am: The Rajya Sabha has been adjourned till 12 following an uproar over special status being given to Uttar Pradesh. The Samajwadi Party demanded that the UP should be given a special status like Bihar has been given.
There was chaos in the Rajya Sabha on Monday and the House was adjourned for 15 minutes following obituary reference. Meanwhile, the Lok Sabha has been adjourned till Wednesday following obituary reference to sitting BJP MP Dilip Singh Judeo.
Parliament has been not functioning normally since the start of monsoon session as the Opposition and treasury benches have been clashing over several issue including Telangana, Robert Vadra land deals, economic slowdown among others.
