New Delhi: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banjeree has decided against attending the swearing in ceremonies of Prakash Singh Badal and Akhilesh Yadav, allegedly after being asked by the congress. But she's keeping her ally at the Centre guessing by sending her representatives.
24 hours after keeping alliance partner Congress on tenterhooks, Mamata Banerjee calls it truce, at least for now. After deciding to attend the swearing in ceremonies of Parkash Singh Badal and Akhilesh Yadav, the TMC supremo does a dramatic u-turn on Sunday, scotching speculations of a possible realignment of non-Congress and Non-BJP regional parties as a third alternative.
Party Vice President Derek O'brein tweeted, "Just spoke to Mamatadi. Was keen to make a trip to Chandigarh and Lucknow but now she'll be in Bengal on the opening day of Assembly for the Governor's address.
According to sources, the decision was taken after a meeting with the party leaders who advised her against appearing on the side of the BJP. And while she herself won't attend, she is keeping the Congress guessing by sending her emissaries.
Congress leader Shakeel Ahmed, said, "She is a very strong ally of UPA. She even said yesterday that she was with UPA."
The Samajwadi party though has dismissed any talks of a federal front. But the BJP too is keeping a close eye and for now is fishing in troubled waters.
On third fronnt, SP supremo Mulayam Singh Yadav said, "There are no such talks yet."
BJP leader Shanawaz Hussain said, "The UPA has become Ulta Pulta Alliance. No party has future in associating itself with UPA. Congress troubles not only the opposition but also own allies. That's why even their allies are not by their side."
Never before has a budget session been preceded by such political intrigue. A deflated Congress, a belligerent opposition and towering ambitions of regional satraps, the UPA 2 seems to be set to be pulled from all directions.
