New Delhi: The judicial custody of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee's nephew ends on Friday. Akash Banerjee was booked for slapping a policeman when he was pulled up for driving rashly.

Akash was arrested on Wednesday and spent the night in a lock-up.

A Kolkata court rejected their bail application in the case on Thursday and sent all the four to judicial custody for one day.

Akash and his associates were arrested on Wednesday and spent the night in police custody at Watgunje police station for slapping traffic constable Subir Kumar Ghosh after being pulled up for violating traffic rules and rash driving.

Akash has been charged under four sections of the Indian Penal Code, including the non-bailable offence of assaulting a public servant. He is accused of assaulting a public servant, using force to deter a public servant from duty and also with wrongful restraint.

"The matter will be heard tomorrow. We asked the court that certain sections which are levelled against Akash doesn't imply in this case," said Shantanu Dutta, Akash Banerjee's lawyer.

Subir Kumar Ghosh, who was assaulted, said that he was pushed around by Akash.

"I was not beaten but pushed and jostled. I feel that, as a policeman one always has to face such situations when on duty," said Ghosh.

West Bengal Urban Development Minister Firhad Hakim has reassured that there would be no interference and the law would take its own course.
