New Delhi: Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar on Wednesday said that terrorism in country is a gift from the previous Congress-led governments who mishandled the situation for 20 to 25 years.

“While sensitivity towards people should be there, a hard approach towards terrorism is needed. I am sure with the right approach of this government will handle the situation,” Parrikar told News18.

He also said that every deal under the previous UPA government had some angle of corruption.

On Agusta-Westland case investigation, he said, “Everybody agrees that the money has been paid. To find who the exact beneficiary is, is a delicate task.”

“ED has already identified assets worth Rs 86 crores and seized them. They have also filed a chargesheet in the case. CBI is also investigating. The middle men involved have been shielded by others,” he added.

“There were questionable deals, from Embraer to Rolls-Royce case. These companies have admitted in their respective countries that they paid money for deals,” he said.

Parrikar said that following their ‘tough approach’, the cost of defence acquisitions is dropping. “Recently we have signed a radar contract at 20% of the original price. That too it is under make in India,” he said.

On the election outcome in Goa, he said, “BJP will return to power with better margin and clear verdict, with a two third majority. People have voted. As Goa is a small state, small constituencies and smaller shift can alter things so I can't give you exact numbers.”

When asked about the possibility of him returning there as chief minister, he said, “This will be clear after result. BJP President Amit Shah has already said. I don't want to go beyond. Let us wait for 11th March.”

Questioned about the measure adopted to strengthen the security of Army bases one year after the Pathankot base attack, he said, “We formed a committee led by Philip Compose and based on that report measures are being taken.”
