New Delhi: Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh on Tuesday evening called a high level meeting over separatist Masarat Alam's release by Jammu and Kashmir government in New Delhi. The meeting came after the report on Alam's release was submitted by the state government to the Union Home Ministry. Home Minister Rajnath Singh said that he is not satisfied and has sought some clarifications from the state government.
The BJP-led Centre faced fire for the second consecutive day in the Parliament over BJP's support to the Mufti government in J&K. The opposition has asked the Centre to clarify whether the decision to release Alam was taken during Governor's rule in the state. PDP sources say an Additional Secretary in the Home Ministry had asked the District Magistrate of Jammu to release Alam.
Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed earlier on Tuesday assured the Centre that no more separatists will be released without consulting BJP.
On the other hand, Congress leader Saifuddin Soz came out in support of PDP saying that it was wrong to keep Alam behind bars for four years without court's order.
Separatist leader Masarat Alam was released on Saturday after being in jail for nearly four years bringing huge protest from leaders across the party lines. The separatist leader is accused of 2010 stone pelting incident.
