New Delhi: Keshav Prasad Maurya, the president of the BJP’s UP unit, was on Thursday admitted to the hospital. Maurya was admitted to Delhi’s Ramanohar Lohia Hospital after his blood pressure dropped beyond normal levels, news agency ANI reported. According to ANI, the Phoolpur MP will remain under observation for a day and released on Friday.
Meanwhile, BJP leader and Union Minister JP Nadda informed that condition of Keshav Prasad Maurya is normal and he is fine.
"Doctor is looking after him. Medical bulletin will be issued soon," he added.
Maurya, who was considered one of the frontrunners for the post of Chief Minister, may now be out of the running. The party’s national president Amit Shah on Thursday said he had given Maurya the responsibility of “selecting the next Chief Minister”.
Asked who would be the next UP CM, Shah said, “Keshav jiska naam tay karenge, uspe mohar laga denge. (We will give our stamp of approval to anyone who’s name Keshav decides on)”
Speaking to reporters later, Maurya himself ruled out his chances of becoming CM. “Mere paas toh naam tay karne ka zimma hai. Apna naam koi kaise tay karega? (My responsibility is to zero in on the next name. How can anyone pick their own name?)”
With Maurya effectively out of the race, the spotlight now shifts to other contenders – including Union Telecom Minister Manoj Sinha and Lucknow mayor Dinesh Sharma. The most being discussed the most, however, is that of Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh. The home minister’s name was tossed around amidsts reports that his security team had visited 5, Kalidas Marg, the official residence of the UP Chief Minister in Lucknow.
