New Delhi: As the Narendra Modi government has been mounting pressure on the Congress appointed Governors to resign, a new list of governors is likely to be finalised by Wednesday, said sources.
Four of the Congress appointed Governors have recently resigned as the government prepared to nominate new names. Former Attorney General Soli Sorabjee is being considered for the post of Kerala governor. Sheila Dikshit, who is presently the Kerala Governor, could be moved out to one of the North Eastern states if she refuses to resign as Kerala governor.
Other names doing the rounds are BJP leaders Kesri Nath Tripathi, Lalji Tandon, Kalyan Singh, VK Malhotra, Shanta Kumar, Kailash Joshi and Ram Naik.
Six governors have already quit after the BJP government came to power at the Centre. Earlier Uttar Pradesh Governor BL Joshi, Goa Governor BV Wanchoo, Nagaland Governor Ashwini Kumar, Karnataka Governor HR Bhardwaj, West Bengal Governor MK Narayanan and Chhattisgarh Governor Shekhar Dutt also resigned.
