Police had earlier in the day detained riot-accused MP Sangeet Som while on his way to Moradabad to hold a mahapanchayat.
Moradabad: Clashes broke out between the supporters of Bharatiya Janata Party and police in Moradabad after the detention of MPs Sangeet Som, Satyapal Singh and Nepal Singh.
Moradabad DM suffered injuries as BJP supporters pelted stones at policemen, who had to resort to lathi-charge to control the mob. Tear gas shells were also fired at the BJP supporters.
Police had detained riot-accused MP Sangeet Som while on his way to Moradabad to hold a mahapanchayat.
Sources say the BJP did not get the permission to hold the mahapanchayat. However, BJP workers marched towards the venue and were detained.
