Ahmedabad: It is Modi versus Joshi in Gujarat again. Prime Minister Narendra Modi's arch rival and former Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) national general secretary Sanjay Joshi's posters have sprung up in many parts of Ahmedabad overnight.
The posters in Gujarati demand that Sanjay Joshi should be brought back to save the BJP. So far nobody has claimed 'credit' for this. Such posters had mysteriously appeared and disappeared in the past as well.
Insiders say the recent debacle of the BJP in Gujarat local elections especially in rural parts of the state has prompted Joshi supporters to launch a new campaign in his favour. The Bihar rout is also being used by Joshi supporters to start a campaign in his favour.
Joshi, a one-time powerful leader of BJP and Rashtriya Swayamsewak Sangh pracharak, has been sidelined in the party after Narendra Modi became BJP's most popular face. Their rivalry goes back to late 1990s and early 2000s.
Sanjay Joshi had to quit as BJP national general secretary after an alleged video of him with a woman surfaced a few years ago. Joshi was later brought back, but had to quit in 2005 after Modi protested.
