New Delhi: The Congress on Monday said the proposed declaration by National Democratic Alliance (NDA) MPs to the presiding officers of parliament that they do not have illegal assets abroad should also include an undertaking they do not have unaccounted wealth in India.
"If at all, the NDA members of parliament do wish to give a declaration or an undertaking, I think it is a welcome step. However, propriety demands that they must also include in that undertaking that they do not have any undeclared assets or any unaccounted wealth in India also," Congress spokesman Manish Tewari said here.
Answering queries, Tewari said there should not be two standards on black money - one for alleged assets which are parked abroad and the other one for alleged assets which may be domestically generated.
"If the NDA MPs do choose to follow the advice which has been tendered, it would be appropriate that they should also include in their affidavit or undertaking that they have no black money in India also," he said.
BJP leader LK Advani had on Sunday announced at a rally to mark the conclusion of his Jan Chetna Yatra that NDA MPs will declare, within a week of the start of parliament's winter session Tuesday, that they do not own illegal assets outside India.
The move came ahead of the BJP deciding to move an adjournment motion on the issue of black money.
