New Delhi: Congress on Saturday condemned incidents of violence in Uttar Pradesh in the wake of Samajwadi Party's electoral victory and hoped that the new government would bring the "political vendetta to a halt".
Party spokesman Manish Tewari told reporters that the incidents involving attacks on Dalit houses allegedly by SP supporters were reprehensible and reminded the party that vendetta had no place in a democracy.
In Lucknow, the SP, which is all set to form the government in Uttar Pradesh, vowed to tackle any lawlessness sternly in the wake of incidents of violence allegedly involving its workers in the last few days.
On the violence during the Jat agitation at Hissar in Haryana over the issue of reservation, Tewari appealed to agitators not to indulge in violence at a time when the state government was already engaged with them.
