Mumbai: Shortly after NHRC rapped Maharashtra government for "failing to take timely action" in protecting two migrants killed during an MNS agitation against north- Indians in 2008, state Home Minister R R Patil on Thursday said there is no question of being lenient against law-breakers.
"We will look into it (NHRC order). There is no question of being lenient against law-breakers. We have registered 73 cases against MNS activists so far," said Patil.
Earlier, while directing the state to pay a compensation of Rs 5 lakh each to the victims' families, NHRC noted, "it is unfortunate the state government did not muster political will to rein in divisive forces".
Patil, however, refused to comment on the rights body's observation.
