Jammu: Contesting Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah's proposal for partial revocation of AFSPA, the state unit of BJP on Thursday said it would be strategically difficult to nab a militant if the act is in force in one district and not in adjoining areas.

Speaking to reporters in Jammu on Thursday night, state BJP chief spokesperson Jitendra Singh also said that any decision regarding AFSPA had to be primarily based on security inputs and was not the Chief Minister's sole prerogative.

"We contest the J&K Chief Minister's proposal for partial revocation of Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA) from certain districts of the state.

"It would be strategically difficult to nab a militant on the run if AFSPA is in force in one district and not in force in the adjoining district," Singh said.

Abdullah had on Wednesday said that he would raise the issues of partial revocation of AFSPA during the next internal security meeting in Delhi. Omar has been advocating revocation of AFPSA from some areas of the state where the Army is not required to operate, but the demand has been so far been stonewalled by the Army.
