PM Modi won't make a statement on Agra conversion row in Parliament: sources
According to sources, the PM is unlikely to speak as even a statement from him does not guarantee that the opposition will let the house function.

New Delhi: Even as uproar continues in Parliament over the alleged forced conversion row in Agra with the opposition demanding a statement from Prime Minister Narendra Modi, government sources say that there is not even a chance that the PM will speak in the House over the issue.

According to sources, the PM is unlikely to speak as even a statement from him does not guarantee that the opposition will let the house function. Modi will attend the proceedings of the Rajya Sabha on Thursday.

With only 3 days left in the Winter session of Parliament, the Opposition is likely to continue to derail the functioning of Rajya Sabha and Lok Sabha. There were unruly scenes in Rajya Sabha on Wednesday with Opposition MPs storming into the well of the House.

The House had to be adjourned repeatedly as MPs stuck to their demand even after Deputy Chairperson PJ Kurien said that Home Minister Rajnath Singh will respond to questions.

In Lok Sabha, Congress MP Shashi Tharoor took a dig at the PM saying that "Modiji should do ghar vapasi (home coming) to Lok Sabha. We have rarely seen him in Lok Sabha this session. This is not reasonable. Jawaharlal Nehru had a bigger majority but he came to Parliament every single day. One most respect democracy. Modiji ghar vaapis aayein (Modiji, come back home)."

Demanding answers from the PM, Congress leader Digvijaya Singh said, "We want answers from the Prime Minister, unfortunately he is shying away from the debate.

CPM leader Sitaram Yechury said, "As opposition is concerned the discussion so far can't begin until the PM is here. We want to know if he will come. Am I an anarchist for demanding a simple thing. If the PM of the country instead of addressing from outside the House actually comes and be accountable according to the Constitution."
