Amethi: Congress star campaigner Priyanka Gandhi on Monday said there was lack of accountability in politics in Uttar Pradesh and assured that her party would turn UP into a "model state" if it was voted to power.
"I feel there is lack of accountability in politics (in UP). The political leaders here does not feel like serving the people and work for development," she told an election meeting.
Making an appeal to bring about a change in UP, she said if voted to power, Congress would make UP a "model state". Priyanka said there had been politics of a particular caste in the state, whereas development works have come to a halt.
She also accused the successive non-Congress governments in the state of meting out step motherly treatment to Amethi and created hurdles in the development schemes initiated by MP Rahul Gandhi and Sonia Gandhi, who used to represent the constituency before him.
The Congress campaigner said it were also the people of UP who were at fault for the backwardness as they had voted such governments to power.
She said the funds sent by the Centre get stuck in Lucknow, which affected development of villages and this is the reason why UP is lagging behind other states.
