Rajasthan Governor enters final lap of her Presidential race.

New Delhi: UPA's Presidential nominee and Rajasthan Governor Pratibha Patil on Thursday resigned as Rajasthan Governor on Friday.

Patil left for Delhi on Thursday morning to file her nomination papers in the Presidential polls.

"She left for New Delhi in a flight this morning," news agency PTI quoted Raj Bhawan sources as saying.

Only the Raj Bhawan staff was present at the airport to see her off, the sources added.

Earlier this week Patil kicked up a storm among Muslim groups and historians by saying that the purdah system emerged in India to protect women from Mughal aggressors.

Meanwhile, she has been campaigning hard and has been busy meeting key leaders across the political spectrum to ensure a smooth win.

She met former prime minister and Jan Morcha leader V P Singh on Sunday.

Karan Singh, whose name was doing the rounds within the UPA before Patil was declared the consensus candidate, Union HRD minister Arjun Singh and Lok Sabha speaker Somnath Chatterjee were the others that Patil called upon.
