Puducherry: Former Puducherry Chief Minister and founder of the All India NR Congress (AINRC) N Rangasamy released here on Thursday the first list of his party's candidates and the constituencies they would contest in for the April 13 Assembly polls here.
He said that in the first phase 11 candidates had been finalised as nominees of the party for Puducherry (nine) and Karaikal (two) regions. Rangasamy, who is among the 11 candidates, will contest from the newly created Indira Nagar constituency.
Rangasamy said there was still time till March 26 (the last day to file nominations) for finalising the next list and also other issues such as an alliance with AIADMK. "Everything will become clear as there is still time", he said.
Rangasamy, who had been holding the Thattanchavady constituency since his win in 1991 without a break in all polls held subsequently in 1996, 2001 and 2006 has now shifted to Indira Nagar, which is carved out of Thattanchavady after
its trifurcation under delimitation of constituencies by the Election Commission of India.
Former Congress Ministers P Anandabaskaran, P Rajavelu and M Chandrakasu are the AINRC nominees for Mangalam (a new segment), Embalam (reserved) and Neduncadu (reserved in Karaikal) respectively. They joined the Rangasamy-led party recently.
The first list also contains the names of two former nominated legislators and an elected MLA who joined the party recently. They are T Thiagarajan (a nominated legislator formerly of Congress), N G Panneerselvam (a nominated legislator formerly of PMK) and P R Siva (an MDMK legislator who joined AINRC). The three would contest from Bahoor, Uzhavarkarai and Tirunallar respectively.
The other nominees in the list are P M Kalayanasundaram (Kalapet), A Ashok Anandh (Thattanchavady), M Vaithianathan (Lawspet) and G Nehru alias Kuppuswamy (Orleanpet).
