Reduction in petrol price a positive step: Mamata
Oil companies have reduced petrol prices by Rs 1.85 per litre across India.

Kolkata: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, who had threatened that her Trinamool Congress would quit the UPA if the prices of petro products were raised again, on Tuesday, said she was happy that the Centre had decreased the price of petrol.

Reacting to the reduction in price of petrol price by Rs 1.85 a litre for the first time in three years, Mamata told reporters, "We are happy. Thanks to them. It is a positive step."

Stating that she had been urging that prices of petro products in the country should be decreased when there was a drop in international prices, she said "I have been repeatedly advocating this for quite a long time."

Mamata, who is the Trinamool Congress chief, said that her party had appealed to the Centre to ensure that there was no price hike of diesel, LPG and kerosene.
