Bengaluru: The Congress in Karnataka seems to have come up with a formula of revaluation and rotation to pacify its disgruntled MLAs. Congress state president Dinesh Gundu Rao has said the cabinet, which went through a second round of expansion and a rejig last week, will be revaluated after a year leading to the removal of non-performing ministers.
Rao said he has been hearing about reports about the "threats of MLAs" for the last eight months but the Congress-JD(S) government continues to function in the state. "After four days neither Ramesh Jarakiholi nor any other MLA will go. People are together and united," he said.
Water Resources minister DK Shivakumar said that the Congress has promised chief minister Kumaraswamy that for five years the party will give unconditional support. "Nobody has been given full term. All of them (ministers) have been told it is for two years after which there will be rotation," he said.
CM Kumaraswamy said this was the Congress party's decision and he has limitations to speak about it. "I will hold talks will all of them including Ramalinga Reddy and Ramesh Jarakiholi," he said. Gundu Rao also brushed aside the statements of the disgruntled MLAs as personal opinion.
Ramesh Jarakiholi who was dropped from the cabinet last week had threatened to leave the party and had on Monday said he will announce his decision in four days.
Gundu Rao also warned that anybody who violates the party line and makes "unnecessary statements" that will affect the party has to face action.
Senior Congress leaders, including Rao and minister DK Shivakumar, have said that they will meet party colleagues who are disappointed and exuded confidence that the Congress-JD(S) coalition government is stable.
Eight Congress legislators were inducted as ministers in the HD Kumaraswamy-led cabinet on Saturday. Portfolio allocation for these ministers is expected to take place this week. The JD(S) still has two berths to fill.
