Bhopal: Over Rs 10 lakh in cash were on Monday discovered from the office a Vyapam scam-accused official who is currently lodged in jail, police said.

"Over Rs 10 lakh and some documents were recovered from the table of a Vyapam official. Further probe is on," Superintendent of Police (south) Anshuman Singh said.

The cash was found when the table and other furniture used by system analyst CK Mishra -- now in jail -- was being shifted from his room at the building of Vyapam (Madhya Pradesh Professional Examination Board), said a senior official on the condition of anonymity.

"The moment the drawer was opened, the people were shocked to find over Rs 10 lakh tumbling out," he said.

Police were informed and they took the money and the documents in their possession. The contents of the drawer also included a cheque of Rs 75,000.

Besides Mishra, two other key Vyapam officials -- the then examination controller Pankaj Trivedi and chief system analyst Nitin Mahindra -- have been arrested for alleged massive irregularities in recruitment in various government departments, especially in the pre-medical examination conducted by MPPEB, commonly known by its Hindi acronym Vyapam.

The scam is being probed by the Central Bureau of Investigation now.

Soon after the news of cash discovery spread, a protest was staged outside Vyapam office by Youth Congress workers here.
