Srinagar: Former Jammu and Kashmir health minister Shabir Ahmad Khan, who has been accused of molesting a female doctor surrendered on Thursday. The Jammu and Kashmir Assembly speaker had already granted permission for his arrest.
However, while speaking to the media for the first time since the controversy broke, Shabir claimed innocence and said that he will abide by the law. "I have been framed and the allegations are baseless," he added.
The Jammu and Kashmir High Court on February 12 had directed ex-health minister Shabir Ahmad to present himself before the police.
But the court gave him some relief by saying that he can secure bail on his arrest after furnishing a bond. The court also barred him from moving out of the state without the investigators' permission.
The court was hearing a bail plea moved by the minister, who had been evading arrest since last six days and will hear the case again on February 18.
