New Delhi: On Monday, non-issues dominated the question hour in both the houses of the Parliament. The Janata Dal United (JDU) president Sharad Yadav's remark on the beauty of South Indian women, the alleged spying of Delhi police on Rahul Gandhi and Goa government's dropping of Gandhi Jayanti from the list of holidays consumed the time reserved for question hour.
The Union HRD minister Smriti Irani raised the issue of Yadav's statement demanding a clarification. The deputy chairman of the Rajya Sabha Professor PJ Kurien ruled that there can be no discussion on this statement. After some commotion, it was given a quiet burial.
The leader of the opposition in the Rajya Sabha Gulam Nabi Azad raised the issue of alleged profiling of Rahul Gandhi. He wanted to know what prompted the Delhi police to seek such details including his footwear size. He alleged that the Centre is snooping on him.
The Union Finance minister Arun Jaitley gave a detailed reply dismissing the reports of spying on Rahul Gandhi. He described it as a routine security check.
Deputy leader of the opposition Anand Sharma also protested the alleged snooping. Another opposition member Naresh Agarwal also attacked the government saying that he was also profiled by the police. Even the issue of some MPs wearing jeans was also briefly mentioned in the house.
The Goa government allegedly dropping Gandhi Jayanti from the list of national holidays was also raised by some opposition members in the Lok Sabha.
