Hyderabad: Accusing the Congress and TDP leaders from Telangana region of being insincere over their resignations in support of separate statehood demand, the TRS and political Joint Action Committee (JAC) on Wednesday announced an action plan to intensify the stir to make them quit and mount pressure on the Centre.
"The Telangana Congress leaders say they will secure Telangana even while ensuring stability of the state government. The loot of Telangana is continuing. Why should you worry about protecting the government?" TRS President K Chandrasekhar Rao said addressing a gathering at the party office in Hyderabad.
Noting that 26 MLAs had quit their posts in support of "one person" (YS Jagan Mohan Reddy), he wondered why the Telangana MLAs are not ready to resign for Telangana though "children are ending their lives by committing suicides".
The assertion of TRS and JAC is that mass resignations of the public representatives would trigger a crisis and force the Centre towards accepting the separate statehood demand.
The Assembly Speaker had rejected the en masse resignations of Telangana MLAs earlier, and the TRS President hit out at the main Opposition TDP and ruling Congress MLAs for not quitting their posts again. Along with a few others, the MLAs of TRS had faxed their resignations to the Speaker.
Claiming that the resignations would not result in byelections, the former Union Minister recalled his comments that he would work for the victory of MLAs if bypolls take place.
The Telangana political JAC, which comprises TRS, BJP and various people's organisations like pro-Telangana Andhra Pradesh government employees, announced its plan of action for the proposed "strike by all sections of people".
The agitation would begin from September six with people putting up banners and boards asking the public representatives not to visit the villages without resigning from their posts, the TRS President said.
The students of the universities in Telangana would take out rallies on September eight.
Separate statehood campaign would be conducted on September 9, 10 and 11 during the Ganesh idol immersion processions. TRS would organise a public meeting on September 12 at Karimnagar.
The strike would be intensified from September 13 and it would be aimed at bringing administration to a grinding halt across Telangana, Rao said.
JAC Convener M Kodandaram said national highways would be blocked as part of the strike and 'rail roko' would be organised on September 22.
The Telangana supporters would "lay siege" to district Collector offices in Telangana on September 25, he said.
The TRS chief said an uncompromising battle is needed to achieve the long-pending statehood demand.
