New Delhi: A delegation of Trinamool Congress leaders on Wednesday met Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and conveyed to him that West Bengal's ruling CPI-M was allegedly misusing the Central security forces deployed against Maoists to regain lost political ground ahead of state assembly polls.
The delegation, headed by the leader of the opposition in the state Partha Chatterjee, also told the Prime Minister the party's concern over the rise in prices of essential commodities, including onion.
Chatterjee said the Prime Minister has assured the delegation that he would look into their concerns and have a talk with the Home Minister P Chidambaram.
The 11-member delegation, which also included Union Ministers Mukul Roy and Sultan Ahmed, submitted a 500-page report to the Prime Minister alleging atrocities and state- sponsored terrorism perpetrated by CPI(M)-led left parties in the state.
"We met the Prime Minister and expressed our dissatisfaction over the prevailing law and order situation in our state," Chatterjee said.
"Anarchy is prevailing and democracy is in peril in the state. There is complete breakdown of law and order. The state government is unable to protect life and property of our people".
He alleged CPI-M is misusing central security forces and operations against Maoists to regain lost political ground in the state.
Asked whether they were demanding President's rule in the state, Chatterjee said "We have explained everything to the Prime Minister. It is upto him to take a decision.”
