New Delhi: In an embarrassment for the Sheila Dikshit government ahead of the upcoming Delhi Assembly polls, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has registered four Preliminary Enquiries (PE) against Delhi Jal Board headed by the Chief Minister for alleged irregularities in the department.
Three PEs are related to alleged irregularities in the awarding of tenders to companies to install water treatment plants in the capital and the fourth PE will probe alleged irregularities in the procurement of water meters installed in some areas across Delhi.
The Aam Aadmi Party has been targeting the Sheila Dikshit government for imposing inflated water bills on Delhi citizens. "Call up the Delhi Jal Board, tell them there is no water in our basti, please send a tanker. The Jal Board will tell you it does not have water. Call up a private tanker company and tell them that there is a marriage in your family, send us 20 tankers and the company will send twenty tankers."
"How is it that the Delhi Jal Board does not have water but private tanker companies always do? The 42 crore gallons of water is not leaking, it is being stolen," AAP leader Arvind Kejriwal had asserted.
