New Delhi: A small group of unidentified persons attacked the compound of the house of Janata party leader Subramanian Swamy in Nizamuddin East on Sunday, police said.
There was no major damage in the incident on Sunday evening, police said. Swamy alleged the persons were "rowdy Congress persons."
Swamy was not at home at the time of the incident which was reported to the police by his grand-daughter. Police said 10 to 15 persons had gathered outside Swamy's home when suddenly five of them barged into the compound. A few flowerpots and lanterns in the garden were damaged, they said.
The unidentified persons raised slogans against Swamy while making good their escape. Police are trying to ascertain the identity of the persons. Some eyewitnesses alleged that the persons raised pro-Congress slogans.
A case of criminal trespass and creating mischief has been registered by the police.
Swamy himself tweeted about the incident. "Rowdy Congress persons break open into my Nizamuddin compound destruct my garden. Police have arrived," he said on the microblogging site Twitter.
Swamy said only his young grand daughter was at home at the time of the incident and she informed the police. He said a plain clothes police officer was witness and has given evidence for FIR.
Swamy is under attack for his alleged remarks against minorities in a newspaper article.
National Commission for Minorities has issued notice to Swamy in connection with the article.
A complaint was also filed by a lawyer against Swamy in a Delhi court which sought a report from police on his plea for lodging a criminal case against the politician.
