WB polls: PDS to contest 36 seats in first phase
The PDS supported by 12-party USDF, will contest 36 assembly seats out of 54 in the first phase of WB polls.

Kolkata: The Party for Democratic Socialism (PDS), supported by 12-party United Secular Democratic Front (USDF), will contest 36 assembly seats out of 54 in the first phase of assembly elections in West Bengal on April 18.

Announcing its candidate list on Tuesday, PDS General Secretary Samir Putatunda said he would contest from Jadavpur constituency against the Chief Minister, Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee.

Trinamool Congress has fielded former Chief Secretary Manish Gupta for the seat.

Once a close associate of Bhattacharjee, Putatunda along with former MP Saiffunddin Chowdhury formed PDS in 2001 after their expulsion from CPM.

Putatunda's wife Anuradha has been fielded as a PDS candidate in Mograhat (west) constituency.
