Lucknow: As the campaigning for the Lok Sabha elections has begun in full swing, political party leaders are flocking to Kumbh in Prayagraj to seek divine blessings and former Uttar Pradesh chief minister Akhilesh Yadav is the latest entry.
The Samajwadi Party president first reached the Niranjani Akhada in Ardh Kumbh on Sunday and sought the blessings from Mahant Narendra Giri for the upcoming electoral battle.
Taking on the Yogi government’s alleged caste-based politics and its lacklustre attitude towards the farmers, the former CM said, “If we come to power in UP, we will release the caste census figures to prevent any caste-based politics and discrimination in the state. On the one hand, farmers are dying of frustration, our CM is busy with Kumbh celebration.”
Speaking on the construction of a Ram Mandir in Ayodhya, he said, “I think our seers and saints have firm belief in the Supreme Court and everyone should wait for its verdict.”
Pitching for a military-free Allahabad fort at the holy Sangam, Yadav said, “The fort should be handed over to the state government from the Army, which will be the real ‘daan’ (offering) for the Kumbh. The state government should pass a resolution in the cabinet and send it to the central government.”
“Despite our past rivalry, we have come together and stitched an alliance against the BJP and I believe that we will register a win on most of the seats,” said Yadav regarding the nascent SP-BSP alliance.
Yadav also welcomed the stunning entry of Priyanka Gandhi Vadra in active politics and encouraged the youth to join politics.
Priyanka will formally take charge as in charge of eastern Uttar Pradesh on February 4 after a holy dip in the river Ganga at the Kumbh Mela accompanied by her brother and Congress chief Rahul Gandhi.
