Afrad VK’s debut film Riptide, a Malayalam production, has earned a spot in the Bright Future section of the 53rd Rotterdam International Film Festival (IFFR). This category showcases films challenging traditional cinematic norms. Salah Rahman and Fariz Hind, newcomers, play the lead roles in the movie, which Afrad VK has written, directed, and edited.

Riptide is a youth-centric film delving into a mysterious love story. Produced by Komal Unavne under McBrant Productions, co-produced by Jomon Jacob and Afrad VK, the cinematography is led by Abhijit Suresh. Engaging film studies students in all aspects, originated from a project at MediaOne Academy.

The IFFR stands as a premiere global event, spotlighting thematic, experimental, and independent films. Over recent years, esteemed Malayalam films like Malik, Sexy Durga, Chavati, Koozhamal, and Family have graced its screens. Notably, Koozhamal by P.S. Vinodraj and Sexy Durga by Sanal Kumar Sasidharan secured the Tiger Award for Best Film. This influential festival is scheduled from January 25 to February 4, with Rojin K Roy serving as the PRO.

Ram’s directed film, Yezhu Kadal Yezhu Malai, featuring Nivin Pauly, Anjali, and Soori, has wrapped up shooting. Opting for a festival route over an immediate theatrical release, the film will debut at the Rotterdam International Film Festival along with Riptide. Nivin Pauly expresses excitement about the film’s inclusion in the 53rd IFFR.

Exploring the life of a fisherman, Yezhu Kadal Yezhu Malai signifies Nivin Pauly’s unique return to Tamil cinema in a distinctive role. The film’s music, crafted by Yuvan Shankar Raja, establishes the mood, with the initial single already available in both Tamil and Malayalam languages.
